Last Exercise and Summary - 32

This has been a great experience. I learned alot about Library Web 2. I feel more "Oh 2007!" Namely I feel like one of our patrons who is 83 years old. Joan was sitting outside our libray, using her wireless laptop. She told me something I already new. It is important to keep up with the times, keep learning so that the mind stays sharp, and life long learning helps you to stay connected with the rest of the world. She felt connected to the 21 st century because she has been a life long learner and has kept up with technology. Joan hopes to make it to 100. She hopes I will make it to 100 and keep on learning also. Of course I will keep on learning whether I make it to 100 or not.

I believe I reached my goal -- which has been to increase my technical skills and understanding of what Library 2 is about. I will be using Flicker more. I need to get better about organizing my photos. Especially library program photos.

I liked Library Thing - fun and easy way to find out about interesting books to read. It is not the way to do a card catalog, but it is an easy way to personalize one's own list of great reads.

I probably will not be back to MySpace but I am exploring Second Life. Second Life is on the extreme side. There are already libraries advertising on Second Life and Utube.

I think the social networking is a good way to reach tweens and teens. However, I have some safety concerns. I am learning more about safety on the net. It was not long ago that a 24 year women answered an ad for a babysitting job. The ad was on Craiglist.com. Unfortunately she was murdered by the 19 year old who placed the advertisement. I would never go meet someone that I did not know.

Learning online has its benefits. It is great not to have to drive 2 or more hours somewhere in order to receive training. However, it is hard to work in online training. There are many interruptions and distractions. There were times I was doing my training in the workroom, and other times I was doing this training in between patrons at CV front desk.

I will do another excerise like this one again.
